William Robert Martin III, MD, serves as a Medical Director, AIM Musculoskeletal
Solution at AIM Specialty Health® (AIM), with the responsibility of supporting the ongoing evolution of the clinical strategy of the solution, provider engagement,
and growth initiatives.
He brings more than two decades of experience as a board-certified, fellowshiptrained,
and practicing orthopedic surgeon. In addition, Dr. Martin has held
multiple leadership roles in medicine at the state and national level. He is the
former Chair of the Arizona Medical Board, Medical Director for the American
Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), and member of the National Board
of Medical Examiners. He is currently the President-Elect of the Alaska State
Medical Association (ASMA). Dr. Martin is a Partner at the Juneau Bone and
Joint Center in Juneau, Alaska.
He has been lauded with numerous awards and scholarships, including the
President’s Award, Arizona Kidney Foundation; Humanitarian Award, Keep
Program, Arizona Kidney Foundation; American Medical Association (AMA)
Leadership Award; and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons
Leadership Fellowship Award. He also is a member of numerous professional
societies, including the AMA, AAOS, American College of Surgeons, and
American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.
Throughout his career, Dr. Martin has been actively involved in social and civic
initiatives, including providing orthopedic services for Children’s Rehabilitative
Services (CRS) and the Veteran’s Administration (VA) Hospital and Native
Americans in Arizona and Alaska. He also is committed to aiding underserved
populations. Dr. Martin is a founding member of the Dr. Charles E. Gavin
Memorial Foundation and serves on the board of directors of many public
and private organizations.
Dr. Martin received his medical degree from Loyola University of Chicago
Stritch School of Medicine and his Bachelor of Science from Tufts University.
He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Maricopa Medical Center in
Phoenix. Dr. Martin completed his fellowship in advanced adult foot and ankle
reconstruction with renowned orthopedic surgeon Roger A. Mann in Oakland,
CA. He earned a postdoctoral certificate in public health care concepts from
the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Public Health and is currently
completing his master’s in business administration.
