Chief Medical Officer
Femi Adewunmi, MD, MBA, brings more than 12 years of experience as a health care industry executive to his position of Chief Medical Officer with AIM Specialty Health® (AIM). In this role, he drives improved quality, integrity, and performance of AIM solutions, leads the AIM team of solution medical directors, and collaborates with clients to achieve safer and more effective health outcomes while improving costs. To accomplish this, Dr. Adewunmi relies on his 20-plus years as a physician with business acumen he’s honed as a seasoned leader in hospital medicine.
Prior to joining AIM, Dr. Adewunmi served for 10 years as Senior Vice President of Strategic Provider Partnerships and Chief Medical Officer for Sound Physicians, a national provider of hospital medicine, emergency medicine, critical care, population health, telemedicine, and physician advisory services. During his tenure, he was consistently recognized for exceeding operational performance, quality of care, and clinical outcome targets.
Dr. Adewunmi also led the organization’s strategic direction in mergers and acquisitions, innovation, execution, and business development. Collaborating with regional and local operations, sales, clinical, and financial leadership, he focused on propelling overall growth and exemplary outcomes by executing clear strategies and monitoring processes to measure success.
As Chief Medical Officer with Sound Physicians, Dr. Adewunmi managed multi-site operations in hospital medicine and other service lines, such as emergency operations and intensivist programs, providing executive leadership to improve quality, satisfaction, and performance for clients that included community hospitals, academic institutions, and large health systems.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Adewunmi served as a hospitalist provider at Person Memorial Hospital, caring for patients on general medical floors and in critical care units. He also sat on pharmacy and therapeutics and quality assurance committees. In addition, he acted as interim medical director as needed.
Dr. Adewunmi earned his doctor of medicine degree from the University of Ibadan in Oyo State, Nigeria, and he received his MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. In addition, he is a Certified Physician Executive (CPE) and a Senior Fellow in Hospital Medicine (SFHM).
